Tubal and Adenoid Surgery
The boys had their tubal and adenoid surgery this past Monday. After much debate, research, and prayer Justin and I decided it was best for the boys. They both have recurring ear infections (7 in 5 months) and enlarged adenoids. Eli had no hearing in his left ear when we met with an audiologist because of fluid. Basically, their ears have not been clear of fluid since Thanksgiving last year :-(
We had the surgery at Texas Children's so it took us awhile to get it in. The facility is amazing. Some of the top specialist and anesthesiologist in the country work here. Wouldn't you know that we had been completely well until Sunday before the surgery? Eli starts running a fever Sunday at lunch. By 5:00 it was 102. I called the doctor and he said as long as he isn't vomiting just keep with the tylenol and surgery as scheduled. Ok. Well, at 10:30 Sunday night Eli starts crying and I go to check on him. As soon as I opened the nursery door, I smelled it. Yep! Throw up :-) Rough night.
Beckett wakes up the next morning - fever. But we head to TCH anyway (and I am so thinking that its cancelled). Once we get there, they tell us to sit on these couches way over to the side.. so we don't infect all the other kids! And then we are sent to the "blue room". They way they kept saying.. "oh, they are going to the blue room" I knew they were keeping our fever ridden germ infested kids away from everyone! The saddest part was they could see the toys through a little window and I can tell you Eli wanted out! After a lengthy lengthy investigation, examination, interrogation, meeting with head RN, anesthesiologist, and doctor it was determined we would proceed. Of course, I had to agree to all the risk that could happen with vomiting and going under. Lung damage, affixation, etc. SCARY! I was a wreck :-) The babies had iv's, they were intubated, monitors, oxygen, etc. Mommy cried.
The hardest part was my little men couldn't have anything to eat from midnight until surgery at 10:30 and 11:30. But they did finally get to go play.
It was a great distraction from the hunger. They actually went back early so that worked in our favor. Beckett was so sweet he walked right over to the wagon, got in, and went on a ride. I didn't see Eli go (with Daddy) because I was already with Beckett in recovery.
Beckett had a tough time with his recovery. He was very angry and kept holding his breath. He had to have some additional oxygen and pain medicine. We ended up staying a lot longer waiting on Beckett them to "see Beckett more awake" He loved just rocking with him momma and snoring. Eli was amazing. He woke up, looked at his daddy, and sat right up. Drank 2 huge classes of apple juice! He first tried to pull the iv out, then he tried to bite it!
Finally, after a couple of hours we went home. They both sleep all the way home. We stopped and picked up pizza. When we got home, Beckett went straight down but Eli threw a fit for a piece of pizza.. can you believe that fast!! He was still out of it though.. he ate with his arm behind his head. And he hasn't eaten much since then either :-(
They both slept all day but on and off that night. We are still kinda fussy and cranky but overall doing ok. They are still not eating very well but I am hoping that will get better as the days pass. I praise the Lord that they both came through so well and that He gave me the strength. Thanks to my mom and their sweet Dee Dee - I have no idea what we would have done without her. Thanks to all who are praying for my sweet boys.. please continue to pray for healing.
