Our First ER Visit
Last week on about Wednesday, Eli started not wanting to go down to sleep at night. We started weaning him to once a day on the reflux medicine so Justin and I just assumed that it was his reflux that he wasn't ready to wean. Then Friday night, after working 55 hours last week, Justin stayed with some friends in Kemah after a day of boating and I stayed with the boys. No big deal right?? Ha! Beckett was up pretty much all night. Seemed like he was drowning in snot. Then proceeded to start throwing up Saturday morning. I also had to work :-(
Justin gets home and calls me at work to tell me that he thinks Beckett's soft spot is swollen. So of course, I am googling this and its a sign of infection. I call the doctor for the Saturday clinic give all his symptoms and they say to take him the the ER. The danger of the swollen soft spot is meningitis. Well, I come home and Beckett is laughing and playing and seems like he just has a cold. We debate the ER for awhile dreading what we think it will be like.
After he throws up again, we decide we have to take him. I did a little research and we took him to a pediatric emergency room not too far from our house. It was amazing! No wait at all, took us right back. No wait on the doctor. Great medical care and attention. We will not dread it next time if they say go to the ER. They immediately did an RSV test and chest Xray on my man Beckett. Here he is being brave at the ER.
My man had RSV and pneumonia! Eli also had RSV and they both had ear infections. Poor little guys.
The most popular comment we get from the medical profession "Whoa! Those are some big twins". Generally speaking twins are smaller than average babies. When we took them to their follow up with our pediatrician on Monday, she came in the room and said " Well, we are good on our eating and weight until the 1 year check up!" She told us that she had hoped they would be 20 lbs by their 1st birthday. She had just come from next door where she looked at a 18 lb singleton 1 year old baby and put her on an eating plan. She said she felt confident in our parenting skills because there was no doubt my boys were getting fed. Beckett weighed 21 lbs and 10oz and Eli weighed 20 lbs 9 ozs. My big boys!

They are doing so much better now. We feel like we keep getting these viruses at church nursery. That is the only time they are around other children. I think we are going to "home church" for awhile. Fortunately, our church services are broadcast live on the web so Justin and I can watch every Sunday morning. It's not the same but I have to keep the boys healthy. We are trying to figure out the best alternative for our family because we love church!
Looking forward to a visit from my mom this week and then a great trip planned for my birthday/Memorial day weekend.
