The San Antonio Riverwalk, Alamo, and Yellow Sombrero

New Years Eve was amazing! I was lucky enough to get some much need time away from work. Julie and Marcus were in town so we headed down to San Antonio for a some sight seeing and New Year's Eve fun. We stayed at the Hilton which was built for the World's Fair when it came to San Antonio. When we pulled into down all the streets were blocked off. There was "fair food" booths set up everywhere. Carnival rides and games. Huge beer stations and band stations and security everywhere. Not to mention people! We could not believe how huge this New Year's Event is. We stopped by the hotel but the room wasn't ready so we left our bags and headed down to the famous Riverwalk.
We took a tour guided boat tour through the city on the river. Let me tell you.. it is gorgeous! There are all these little restaurants and bars along the riverwalk. At night, there were little strands of multi colored lights twinkling over the river from the trees. Little pathways along each side so you can walk up and down the river. The tour was great. There were bands playing along the walk and the tour guide told us all about San Antonio. When we were done, we headed back to check in and then off to eat some real "Mexican food" at Rosario's. We walked forever (away from the action) so we weren't real happy. Until we got our food! Julie had the most amazing fish tacos and I had enchiladas that had a white wine cream sauce. The food was full of flavors I had never tasted! We loved it.. had a couple of margaritas and headed to the Alamo! I was really surprised to find out that the Alamo is located
right in downtown San Antonio, not too far from the hotel. We looked at all types of old guns, Bowie knives, old uniforms. Listened to historical speech in the courtyard which I have to admit I totally zoned out on. But hey.. you have to see the Alamo when San Antonio.. After our cultural experience Justin decided he needed a hat for the evening. And being so close to Mexico and surrounded by those of Hispanic decent, he settled on a yellow sombrero which became the talk of the night. 250,000 people were in attendance at this celebration and Justin was the only Sombrero we saw all night!! We visited a local pub Dirty Nelly's and the headed out to stroll the Riverwalk. People watching was so much fun! We decided to set up camp at Pat O'Brien's for some hurricanes and live music. The Tower of America's is huge space needle type building in San Antonio with a revolving restaurant at the top. This is where the "ball drops" and firework show starts. Right before 12:00 we headed out in the streets where Justin secured the "last" glasses of wine and we counted down the New Year our best friends!
