It's a Smile, It's a Kiss, It's a Sip of Wine, It's...

Summertime! Sometimes I truly forget how magical summertime can be.  Maybe it's because I am truly a fall to winter holiday lover.  Kicking off with football season, rolling through Halloween, Thanksgiving and topping it off like a cherry on top with Christmas.   But it's back in full force here and although the kids being out of school is taking some adjusting to, we just had the most fabulous summer weekend that reminds you just why this time of year can be special.

Our best friends that we met through church and small group, recently hosted a dinner at their house in honor of my birthday.  See.. birthday celebrations just keep coming.  Now, in summers past, we have never kept the boys out this late.  But that's what summer is about when you are out of school right? Even at 3.  Late afternoon naps, swimming at night, hanging out with friends way past bedtime :-)

Sweet girl friends

um yeah.  I had fun :-)
Justin and the guys got up Saturday morning and did work for Habitat for Humanity.  Such a proud wife.

In true summer fashion, Eli slept until 10:00am on Saturday. What?? Too bad Beckett was up by 7am as usual.  Once they were both up, going, and ready we hit the grand opening Saturday of the YMCA pool.  Eli said as we walked in "Mommy, I'm so glad we came back here!"  As if we just left yesterday and not 8 months ago.

sno cones!

I said "wait right here for mommy".  When I came back Eli said "see Mommy we ARE good listeners"
After a great morning we were all ready to crash.  Especially since we stayed out so late the night before.  Great naps for all of us.. especially Beckett (4 hours) got us ready for a fun evening.  The boys went to Parents Night Out at gymnastics while Justin and I had a rare date night. Would love to report that we did something exciting but we had a great dinner (slow. easy. took our time) and then went to the thrift store to look for some items for my Honduras trip.  Justin was ready to go to sleep way before pick up time for the boys.

"helping me get ready"

Drop off at Parents Night Out.. they look heart broken don't they?

oh yeah. Poppin tags for Honduras gear
Sunday we played a rare day of hooky from church.  Justin and Eli got some extra sleep and we got a special invitation from friends to go to Lake Conroe on their boat.  The boys have never had a real boating day on a lake and we were eager to take them.  They woke up excited and we jammed all the way there.  Their favorite, Cruise, of course which is perfect for the occasion but we introduced them to Pontoon.  Eli is still singing "mmm.. motorboatin."   Justin and I both grew up going to the lake so summer and lake time go hand and hand.

here we go!

never mind hubby's finger in the way
The boys got to ride the inter tube for the first time.  They loved it until their arms got tired and they couldn't hold on anymore and were bouncing all over the place.

Tubing Time!

We dodged the rain most of the day.  For lunch we headed to Pappas on the Lake and we made it in just in time.  The rain cleared and the boys had a good time playing in the sand and fountain (with green water.. just saying) Gross!

Then it was ski time!  Their little on Luke (6) has been working on wake boarding but never got up.  He did for the first time!  The 3 little ones loved watching the big boy learn.  Both of mine still talk about learning to ski when they get big.

watching daddy

Oh yeah!  And guess who got up on the slalom for the first time in 15 or so years? That would this girl!  (and who felt it for days???)

The water was choppy from all the rain and wind so we headed to the little island for some rest and relaxation.   So. Much. Fun.  The kiddos loved playing in the sand and shallow water.  We jammed the music, snacked, and hung out for the rest of the afternoon.

One of the highlights of the day was the tractor that pulled the boat out of the water.  4 boys amazed.

A perfect summer day
It was hard to see the sunset on such a truly perfect day.  Both boys slept all the way home.  We woke them to bathe them and they went right back to bed.  Worn out from enjoying all that summer has to offer.  On Monday, we were up early for swim class and then we had to make a stop by the grocery store.  They were ready for nap at 10:00.  Look at these poor tired faces.

10:00 am on the couch!

Can we go home to nap now please? We played to hard this weekend
Worth every minute.  Sweet Summertime.

The more things change
The more they stay the same
Don't matter how old you are
When you know what I'm talkin' 'bout
Yeah baby when you got

Two bare feet on the dashboard
Young love and an old Ford
Cheap shades and a tattoo
And a Yoo-Hoo bottle rollin' on the floorboard

Perfect song on the radio
Sing along 'cause it's one we know
It's a smile, it's a kiss
It's a sip of wine, it's summertime
Sweet summertime

Love,
