Sweet Beckett Sick Again

It really is Eli's fault.  Or maybe mine and Justin's.  After dragging these sweet babies to Alabama and Florida through 4 different airports, 4 airplanes, multiple hotels, pools, and beaches Eli started running fever on our way back from the Florida trip.  No other symptoms really just a fever.  And a red irritated throat.  A fever that lasted 5 days, 2 trips to the doctor, one finger prick, 2 strep tests and the good ole "fever virus" diagnosis.

Then a few days later, when I picked the boys up from school the teacher said "Beckett was just not himself today, he was really sensitive and seemed like something might be wrong." Hm.. by dinner he was running a fever.  By Saturday he started to drool. A lot.  Like so much drool it reminded me of when he had hand, foot, and mouth.  On Sunday, I took Eli to church and Justin stayed home to give Beckett some TLC.  When I called after church Justin said "he's fine.  Just has a fever and a lot of drool." So in the church parking lot I consult Dr. Google on "toddler fever drooling" um.. yeah.  Not good. I immediately called our pediatrician's after hours and divine intervention our pediatrician was the doc working today and said "Yes, I want to see him" to which my husband so smartly said "of course she does."

She was immediately concerned (kinda crazy so.. she scared me really bad).  She said Mom, if its what I think it is and the blood work confirms we are going to send you to Texas Children's.  If its not, I am still going to send you to Texas Children's for x-rays because its possible that he swallowed something and its lodged in his throat.  His blood work came out great so x-rays it was.  Her main concern was that we didn't know the cause of the severe throat swelling.  Swelling so much he could not swallow his on saliva and that is could continue to swell and constrict his airways.  Off to the ER and TCH we went.

We were there 5 hours (miserable miserable 5 hours) and to make a long story short, no blockages were found on the neck x rays but they were concerned about airway so we did chest x ray.

Then he got a steroid shot for the swelling and within 30 minutes or so was able to drink a whole sippy cup of milk.  Yeah!  We got to go home.    A rough night but woke up Monday feeling much better.  In fact look at these pictures I took Monday.. happy guy right?

Ha! Wrong.  Tuesday we took him to school and at 10:30 they called and said he had thrown up but not to come get him because he had fallen asleep and they would call us when he wakes up.  The baby boy slept 4 hours!  When he woke up, he had a fever.  Awesome.  Justin went and got him and he threw up twice more.  Ok.. I am freaking now because what?  Throwing up now?  He really hadn't eaten anything but a few pancakes since Friday.  I call the dr and she schedules us at 7:30 after hours.  I force my husband to take and thank goodness I did.  He had huge infected pus filled tonsils.  She could finally see the problems now that the swelling had gone down.  Tonsillitis - our first round of this.  She gave him injectable antibiotics and he came home and slept so good.

Whew.  He is on 10 days of antibiotics now and doing really well.   Improvement everyday. He is eating like we haven't fed him in a month!  This was a scary round for us but we are so grateful to live in a city with excellent medical care and a pediatrician that is willing to see us anytime to get our little one well.  Hoping and praying this is our last round for awhile!  Mommy is getting grey hair!
