Operation: Take Back The House
Justin and I decided "it is time". We are taking our house back from the little ones. We are tired of living in a daycare :-) We have been talking about this for awhile trying to decide what to do. Saving for one of our first large furniture purchases ever!!!
The first step was this - the HARDEST decision -
The elimination of "the pen" It occupies our kitchen eating area. We have a dining room but when we bought the house 2 years ago and moved in, we purposely did not fill the space in preparation of the toys and gear the 2 little ones would bring. They have loved it, we have loved it. So hard to let go. But honestly, we don't really need it. They drag the toys out, play in there but are just as happy playing out but mainly we just don't lock them in like we use too. Once the decision was made, I put the pictures on Craigslist late Friday night. Guess what?? Saturday morning Justin gets a call from a family that lives one neighborhood over that has 8 month old twins that just started crawling.. they wanted it! I cried. Really.. like real tears. My heart was breaking for the next stage. My babies, my little ones growing up. A huge step in letting go.. um.. for me.. apparently not for them. They were happy to help!
On Friday night Justin and I made the final decisions on 2 pieces of furniture. A wall unit entertainment system and I fell IN LOVE with a table for the eating area even though we were going to wait, we found the perfect one!
Sunday morning we prepared for the delivery of the furniture.. Justin had GREAT help. This gives you an idea of before.
The delivery of the furniture was traumatic for the boys. They got locked in the hallway behind the gate to keep them safe. And to keep the furniture and the delivery men safe too. They didn't like it at all!
Drama - the boys shook the gate so hard that it fell. Beckett fell face first and landed on the gate on the tile floor without catching himself. The furniture is coming, blood is coming out of Beckett's nose and mouth. Eli is screaming. Justin is yelling at me to get the out of the way so I scooped them up and closed them in the bedroom with me so that I could examine the damage. Fortunately only a busted top lip and nose scratch. After calming down and the furniture delivery men leaving, all returned to "normal" Whew.
We worked most of Sunday on the living room. And purchased a fantastic new tree.
So now.. we have an adult living room. Justin came in from Dallas on Monday night (after I had done some serious toy organizing) and said "wow babe.. it's like adults live here too!" I totally agree. The living room is looking so good. We still have some work to do the shelves but I was able to frame and put out several pics we had of the boys. We relocated the buffet that we were using for tv stand to dining room and it looks so good.
So the kitchen redo is up next. The table is in but we didn't find chairs, we need an art piece for one wall and a sideboard down the road. Here is a sneak peak of the super fab new table top -
That's all for now! Still working until we reveal the eating area. The boys are already loving pulling up to the table and eating in "their area". Changes are hard but can be so rewarding to when its done and all together.
