The Toddler Christmas Tree
The weekend after Thanksgiving brought our annual Riley Christmas tree shopping trip. This year, we had 2 tag alongs to help us pick out the tree. After a couple of places, we stopped at Lowe's (where we had much success last year)
The trees looked rough and the sales guy said that they would be receiving 200 hundred trees the next day. Great! We will come back :-) Well then.. my branch got audited, Justin went out of town, etc etc and we had no tree. We decided to use the artificial in our attic (gasp) "just this year". So Justin gets it out and puts it up.. really Charlie Brown? Only half the lights work.
After hours and hours of Justin trying to get them to work, he threw in the towel and went and got me a tree!!!
I was nervous about the boys of course. I am completely emotionally attached to a lot of our ornaments. We got married at Christmas and so many people gave us beautiful ornaments from Pottery Barn, Waterford, and so many more. Each year that Justin and I travel (or new place together) we always get an ornament and I love those too! I left them all off! I asked myself "would it ruin my Christmas if this ornament got broken?" If the answer was yes, it went back in the attic.
I put several ornaments for the boys on the bottom. Ones that if they touched or played with it would all be okay. I spent the first days saying "gentle hands" or "not for Eli :-)" and they did a great job. I came home from work with one day with daddy and there were ornaments ALL OVER THE FLOOR!! Eli loves the ornaments, he will take them down and then wait for you to say "not for Eli" and then try and put them back up!
And of course, after all the work.. Justin comes home and says "Wow! Our tree looks great. So much better than with all that crap all over it :-)" Spoken like a true man!
