A Fantastic 4th of July Weekend

We were blessed to have our sweet friends The Cullens come to Houston and stay with us for a long 4th of July weekend.  They arrived on Saturday and we had our first adult night out in a very long time...

Saturday morning the boys were in their 1st ever 4th of July parade. Our neighborhood has the cutest parade and last year  I was too big :-) and hot to participate.  Saturday morning was INSANE trying to get everyone ready and lined up for the parade but we pulled it off.  I had no idea there was a contest but when we reached our destination (the clubhouse) they were announced 2nd place winners in the 4 and under.  They are their first popsicles too which helped with the intense heat.  Zola was a huge hit along the parade trail and she was a trooper hanging in there with us.  This is going to be such a fun tradition for our boys!

After we got home, Justin fired up the smoker for some 4th of July ribs.  We did some cooking, napping, swinging, hanging out and having a great time.  We were fortunate to run into our neighbors who have twin girls on the parade route and they invited us over for swimming.  The boys had a great time chilling in the pool and relaxing on a hot day.

And in some really exciting 4th of July news we found something in Eli's mouth!!  The little firecracker has a tooth in and another one almost in.  He is a tough guy, you would never know it.

By the time we got done swimming, the ribs were done.  We had a delicious spread. Justin made 3 types of ribs.. a sweet Memphis style, a hot & spicy, and Dreamland ribs.  My favorite hands down was the Memphis.  Exactly like I like them.  I tried a new coleslaw recipes.. Red, White & Blue Coleslaw which had a twist with blue cheese and bacon and it was yummy yummy.  Finished it off with a big dish of banana pudding.  The perfect 4th of July feast!

On Monday, we continued to the 3 day celebration by heading down to Kemah.  Walt & Morgan have always lived on water (they recently moved from San Francisco) and Justin grew up on the ocean and no holiday weekend for us is complete without the salty smell of the breeze coming off the water.  Justin took us to a restaurant he found called Outriggers.  There was a great strong breeze so we were able to sit outside and enjoy the boats of all shapes and sizes coming in and out of the waterway.  The boys sat in their big boy chairs and had a blast.  We just relaxed, enjoyed the company and the gorgeous day.

We stopped by Kemah boardwalk on the way home.  It was INSANELY hot.  96 degrees when we got there.  We took the boys to the fountain.  The kind where the water shoots out of the ground. I think I had as much fun as they did.  It felt amazing on a hot summer day.   Morgan, Walt, and Justin finished off their perfect weekend with a roller coaster ride that I hear was fast and furious.

Does it get more American than parades, bbq, banana pudding, swimming, boats, seafood, and a roller coaster??  God Bless the USA!!
