Spring Gardening

Over the last couple of weeks I have tried my hand at gardening. Now gardening is one of things that in my head is really great. I love to see flowers and I see gardens and beds at other houses and think that would be great at my house. And then I go to do it and it's hard. It's dirty.. there are bugs and worms. To plant something you must first weed, and get the bed ready, and dig holes and stuff.

The front flower bed of our house along the walk to the front door was a mess. I walked by it everyday and thought "someone should do something about it." So I decided to do it. I set my budget, I researched online what would grow well there, I printed my coupons, and off to Houston Garden Center I went to buy my plants.

I arrived home and my boys were up from their nap so I took them outside to help me. I weeded the flower bed.. all by myself! I wore gloves and pulled up all those weeds. Even weeded all the little rocks. Then I layed out my plants (quickly discovering I didn't have near enough) and started digging holes with my little bitty tiny hand shovel. Fortunately, my husband saw how long it was taking me to dig a hole and went and go the hole diggers and helped me out. He also taught the boys how to throw worms on me too.. yuck! The boys had a great time! They kicked and smiled and laughed when the breeze would blow.

The next weekend,Justin stopped by and picked up more plants for me and mulch. We ended up with salvia, marigold, yarrow, mexican heather (my favorite) and I think begonia. The final bed turned out great! Now I just have to keep it all alive :-)
