What a week! I started back to work this week. I had a little nanny drama - long story made short, she didn't start on time. My mom had already planned on helping me this week at night and working with the nanny so I was lucky that she was here and could keep the boys. I know it was a sacrifice for her :-) They had a great time with their Dee Dee. Of course, it also made it easier for me to go back to work because I wasn't worried about them. I had built up a lot of anxiety and dread about going back to work but it wasn't so bad. A lot about my job has changed which made me really nervous but I was happy to find out that most of it was positive change. I did good and only called home at lunch to check on the boys. I talked to Justin Friday afternoon from work and when I got off the phone I realized that I had a conversation with him and I didn't even ask about the boys!
We interviewed a new nanny and we really like this one. She is actually coming back today to spend some time with the boys so we feel good about this one. She can't start until the first of February so Justin lined up for Aunt Nikki to come from Birmingham. She is married to Justin's "brother" from childhood and they have a little girl Charis. Nikki is a SAHM so her and Charis are flying out Monday to stay for 2 weeks! She is going to have her hands full with a 18 month old and 2 infants.. oh.. did I mention she is pregnant and due in March!! She is getting lots of practice on handling 2. I am sure I will have great stories and pictures to share.
The nanny speaks some English but mostly Spanish. My new undertaking is learning Spanish. I bought the cd's Household Spanish. Teaching me words and phrases to converse in Spanish with employees and co-workers. I started listening to it going to work and also during my lunch. I already have a few phrases under my belt and it helps me at my job too. I can't wait to see if the boys pick the Spanish up from her too since we are planning on having her for at least 2 years if all works out.
The boys had their 2 month check up this week. I was fortunate enough to arrange my work schedule to be able to attend the appointment with Justin. They are both doing great. The first thing Dr. Bel said when she saw them was, "What have you been feeding these boys??!!" At their last visit they were in the 3rd percentile for both height and weight. This time they were in the 50th percentile for weight. She said she had hoped that they would gain 4 lbs since our last visit and they both gained 6 lbs! Beckett has actually passed Eli. My little tiny miracle boy now weighs 11 lbs 8 1/2 oz and Eli weighed 11 lbs and 7 ozs. They both were 22" so they grew about 4 inches. This puts them in the 25th percentile in height so kinda on the shorter side. The funny part is their heads. They are in the 75th percentile in head size! Eli's is bigger than Becketts by 1/4 inch. When the nurse measured Eli's head she said, "Wow! Looks like you got that from your dad :-)" Ha!
Eli has always sounded like a little piglet. He snores and breathes loud and sometimes snorts especially when he is excited. We have been a little concerned about it but knew it wasn't apnea because we had that checked. The doctor agreed we should have him checked so we are going to an ENT specialist just to make sure he doesn't have any blockages. It isn't serious she says because it doesn't affect his eating, breathing (turning blue) or growth. We are praying that its something he will grow out of but it may not be anything. He might just be a loud breather like his dad.
Beckett has severe dry skin. The weather has affected him. He has gotten really fussy lately and the doctor said its because he is itching and can't scratch :-( Poor guy. We have been keeping lotion on him but it wasn't getting better. I was scared to use too much because I thought he might have an allergy. We are using bath oil and have moved a humidifier in his room and he is doing better. He also has been eating a ton but also spitting up so she went ahead and gave us the ok on putting cereal in his bottle to help satisfy him and help with the projectile spit up.
Even with the small issues, she said they are doing fabulous! They got their shots which was more tramatic for me than them. Beckett was finished crying by the time Eli got his shots. Eli fussed all the way home and they both slept all day but besides that no side effects. They both have become quite the scooters in their beds. Here is a couple of pictures I took at a 2am feeding. I promise they did not start off in their beds like this!
