Big boy beds, tummy time, and 3 weeks

The boys are 3 weeks old today! We have reached a lot of milestones over the last week. My mom went home on Sunday and Justin's parents came to visit and help us for a few days. The boys had so much fun getting to know their Riley grandparents. Here is a picture on the bottom of the post of the "graveyard" shift - a 2:00 in the morning feeding they so graciously volunteered to handle for us.

We are still working on the sleep thing around here. Although the boys are doing much better. We had to move Beckett out of our room because Eli's crying and carrying on at night was disturbing him and waking him up. He spent one night in the nursery all by himself. I cried myself to sleep that night thinking of him all by himself in there and slept with the monitor receiver right by my face on the pillow. He did great! A few nights later we were doing better with Eli so off he went to the nursery. I can't believe they moved so soon. It is better though. They love the ocean sounds on their monitor and it helps keep them asleep. It also makes it easier for visitors to feed and help us out. They are doing great in their cribs! I think I have those "rare" exception to the rule twins who didn't enjoy sleeping together. They are sleeping much better in their own beds. They don't seem to disturb each other as much. Below is a picture of us letting them hang out in the crib and get comfortable during the daytime.

Here was my night last night -

10:00 - feed both boys
10:45 - both boys go down in the crib (dad goes to bed and falls asleep :-)
10:50 - both start fussing
10:55 - both start screaming
11:00 - determine they aren't going to stop and assess
11:05 - pick up Eli and rock hoping that Beckett will stop crying
11:10- Beckett not quiet. Put Eli in swing with paci to try and quiet Beckett
11:15 - determine that Beckett is soaking wet with spit up. change clothes, blankets, diaper
11:20 - rock Beckett
11:25 - put Beckett back down to sleep .. success!
11:30- Eli screaming in swing
11:30-11:45 give Eli paci over and over .. not happy
11:45 - take Eli to nursery. He is wet too. change clothes, blankets, diaper
11:50 - rock Eli and put him down
12:00 - get into bed and close eyes
12:10- Eli screaming again
12:10 - go back to nursery - think he may be hungry
12:15 - give him another 2 ozs and rock him
12:30 - put him down. Success!
12:30 - get back in bed and pump
1:00 - go to sleep and set alarm for
2:00am - time to get back up and feed Beckett!

I also introduced tummy time on their 3rd week birthday. I was hesitant because I read that they will hate it at first. But we need to strengthen those little necks so here we go. Beckett did great. He was able to lay on his tummy and push up far enough to turn his head from side to side.. (after a face plant!) Eli could do it but it just made him angry as you can see from the photos. He has a stronger neck so he was lifting it no problem. He was determined not to turn his head though.. boy did I make him mad. After I rolled him back over he fell out. Arms straight out and legs straight out like he just got done with a workout :-)

Even with the lack of sleep, I am having lots of fun with the babies. Their little smiles and hands grabbing you and sweet sounds make it all worthwhile. We are so blessed to be entrusted with this wonderful gift. I am trying to enjoy every minute that I have with them.. its passing so fast. We are looking forward to the holidays. Our Christmas blessings are already here! My family will be arriving on Monday. It will bet the first time my brother has met the boys and we are excited about that and sharing the boy's first Thanksgiving. What a special time this will be for our family. I am thankful that my leave covered the holidays so I can enjoy them and relax with my family.
