World Championship BBQ Cook-Off
There were almost 300 teams competing for the title of the world's best BBQ. We got there in the afternoon. There are general admission tickets that everyone
has to
purchase and then some people (like us) were able to get into one of the "private party" tents. Each tent has numberous sponsors and companies for each tent. A coworker of mine is a volunteer and gave us a ticket. Each tent has bands, bars, themes, etc. This big one was a 18 wheeler truck! The whole trailer part of the truck was a grill. This is a classic Texas event. Cowboy boots, cowboy hats, and wranglers. People watching was great! We saw boots and kilts, bikers, cowboys, so much fun! All in the street there were shoe shines set up. You could grab a beverage and get your boots shined. We walked around looking at all the booths and then headed back to ours tent in time for dinner. We had ribs, pulled pork, sausage and of course brisket. I love Texas sausage..everytime we go to a BBQ place here in Texas I only
really ever love is the sausage. After dinner, things start getting rowdy. (That is what free booze all day long does to all those cowboys and gals). After filling up on BBQ, we headed to the carnival. Justin promised that we would ride the Ferris wheel. The view of the all the tents and the carnivals was amazing! The sun went down and it was freezing! The wind was blowing so we headed home. Another check on our list of must do's in Houston!
