Celebrating the Fourth

It's hard to believe that we celebrated our first 4th of July with the Cullen Family four years ago!  Now here we are, 4 kids and 3 dogs still celebrating America's birthday together.

The boys school was out on the 3rd so I was off work.  We kicked off the holiday weekend with a pool party at 10am.  Our best friends came over for fun, pizza, and cookies.  It was a blast!

We were disappointed to hear our neighborhood didn't have a parade but the great thing about Houston is the another neighborhood is right around the corner.  We crashed a friend's neighborhood and checked out their parade.  It was small but the boys got some candy which was fun.  And the highlight?  Being sprayed by the fire truck.  We weren't prepared and while Beckett had the time of his life, Eli had a total meltdown about his clothes getting wet.  Oh well!  Fortunately the candy helped him recover pretty quickly.

By lunch our friends had arrived and the crazy was on!  3 out of 4 napped and we had such a fun afternoon of swimming, snacking, catching up, and keeping kiddos from drowning :-)

Dinner was crazy town.  No pictures but by dessert time we were ready.  Running around with roasting sticks was a no go, so sitting on our bottoms and waiting "patiently" was the way to go.  And the cutest if you ask me!

Nash's first time with smores and roasting marshmallows and always the boys favorite. Yummo!

And with that the littles were off to bed and the BIG boys anxiously waited on "dark time" to shoot their fireworks they picked out with daddy the day before.

And finally it was firework time!

The boys have been asking for weeks to swim at night so we stayed up way to late and swam after the fireworks.  Sweet summer memories with my boys.

And the bonus?  We had one more full day with our friends!  On Saturday, the boys got in some early morning man time on the golf course.  We handled the zoo and in the afternoon a rain storm moved in.  No problem.  We made "firecracker" cookies that I had found on Pinterest.  Beckett said "It's like 4th of July in my mouth!" Pop rocks for the win!

And after another fun afternoon, the mommy's got to enjoy a long quiet dinner together.  Sunday morning came WAY too fast.  After one fun fishing trip the boys said goodbye to their sweet little friends.

It is absolutely clear that God has called you to a free life. Just make sure that you don’t use this freedom as an excuse to do whatever you want to do and destroy your freedom. Rather, use your freedom to serve one another in love; that’s how freedom grows. For everything we know about God’s Word is summed up in a single sentence: Love others as you love yourself. That’s an act of true freedom. Gal 5:13-15 MSG

Happy 4th of July!
