Our Baby Story... and Big Surprise!

I went to the doctor around 11:00 on the Thursday that my parents were here to do a blood test to find out if I was preggars. They took my blood really quick and said they would call me with the results. At 1:00 the call finally came and I stepped away from my desk to take it. “Congratulations” The nurse said. The test was positive and all your levels look great. I could not believe. I kept asking, “are you sure? Are you sure?” Yes. We are sure! I was so excited that I could barely sit still at my desk. It didn’t help that Justin and my parents kept calling to ask if I had found out yet. I finally told them they called and said it would be tomorrow before we found out. I left work a few minutes early and went to Target and got a digital pregnancy test and a book called “The First 9 Months for Fathers” or something like that. I peed on the stick (at Target J) and was still shocked and brought tears to my eyes when it said clearly PREGNANT! I wrapped it up with the book for Justin and went to meet him, my parents, and my sister at Pappasito’s for dinner. I had the present ready and when they
walked up, Justin asked “What is that?” I was hoping to wait to give it to him when we sat down at the table but we had to wait for a table to be ready so we all sat outside and I told him that actually the present was for him. So he opened it and took out the book and he started reading the title out loud with a really confused look on his face and my mom got it first and screamed “You’re pregnant!!” Which of course led to a ton of tears, hugs, pictures.

Justin, Dad, Gracie, Me and Mom the day I found out. We all passed the stick around!

We went for our first ultrasound the next Friday and to our surprise saw 2 babies! We went back for 2 more ultrasounds to check the development and cried with joy and 8 weeks when we saw 2 strong beating healthy heartbeats. We went for my 8 week ultrasound on Tuesday. Justin almost didn’t go with me this time because they were measuring the heartbeats to see how fast and it would be a quick appt. But he ended up coming because we have been worried about the “vanishing twin syndrome” and he wanted to be there if the news wasn’t good. So one of the doctors who I had met before (but not my doctor) came in and did the ultrasound. He turned the screen around and was like “Here is baby #1, heartbeat looks nice and strong, Here is baby #2, heartbeat looks good, Here is baby #3, heartbeat looks good.” I was like “what?” There are only 2 babies. The nurse got my chart and she said “oops! Looks like one has been hiding out!” I thought it was a joke! I could not believe it. I wish you all could have seen the look on my husband’s face. He turned completely white. I thought he was going to pass out! They talked to us a long time that day about the risk of carrying triplets and what our options are. We were both such in shock that we forgot to get the new picture of all three. We both are in agreement that the Lord blessed us with these 3 and we will do everything we can to deliver 3 healthy babies and one healthy momma. Big decisions ahead for us. We now have to change hospitals and doctors as I need a great NICU because triplets come so early and I need a high risk doctor who handles multiples. So we are praying that God will lead us to the right person to care for your new growing (fast!) family.

My tummy at 7 weeks. I asked the doctor on the next visit if it was normal to be showing this early and he said, "It is if there is 3 babies in there :-)"

Thank you everyone who has prayed for us during our journey to conceive. We are blessed that these babies have been "bathed in prayer" before they were even conceived. Please continue to pray for all of us as we journey together. Love!
