A Super Weekend

Super Bowl weekend was a great weekend! Friday night we cooked steaks at home with a great bottle of wine. I was so excited to get a special on prime beef. What a difference! They were amazing. I had to work Saturday morning (boo) but was off by 12:30. It was a glorious day. It was 75, sunny, low humidity and absolutely gorgeous. So when I got home, I got a blanket, some snacks and beverages, my radio and a book and spread out under the huge tree in my backyard. The puppies laid on the blanket with me and ate crackers while I basked in the Texas sun, listened to the radio and read a great book. I finished the Kate Gosselin book "Multiple Blessings" The story of Jon & Kate + 8. It is a wonderful story of God's faithfulness and provision. They are such strong Christians I did not realize it until I heard her on the radio one day.
Saturday night, Justin and I had a date night. We went to Hugo's on Westheimer for dinner. Justin's brother Woody and his wife Nikki gave us a gift certificate for Christmas so we went to try it out. It was a super nice, when we pulled up to Valet there were Mazaratti's and Ferrari's, BMW's, Mercedes, crazy kinda oil money cars outside. We didn't even think about making reservations (I mean, seriously, we are so from Alabama) so she said an hour wait. It really didn't take that long. We hung out in the bar until our table was ready. So the restaurant is Regional Mexican Cuisine. The menu and website says, “Authentic Mexican cooking is a world-class cuisine that has remained virtually unchanged by the outside world.” Yes very very authentic. Not Tex-Mex, not Superior Grill, Monarcas status. Like "interior Mexican" cuisine. They had a sauteed grasshoppers appetizer, whole baby pig cooked in banana leaves and roasted goat on the menu! Justin and I are adventurous eaters. We eat lots of raw items, crazy vegetation, so we were excited to try all these new flavors. We started with the tamales. They were really good and served super cool in banana leafs. We were off to a good start. We went pretty safe on the entrees. I chose the tenderloin and Justin chose the lamb. The presentation was amazing... but I don't think I am cut out for regional cuisine. The flavors were really earthy... Justin said he felt like he was on National Geographic or Man vs Wild! We had the best time though laughing and laughing at each other trying all the new dishes. Thank you Armstrongs for the fun experience.
Sunday we were blessed to have Leah and Curtis (our new Texas com padre's) go to church with us. All of the churches that we have found we like are contemporary which is somewhat of a departure for us as we usually attend fairly traditional services. Justin loves loves to dress to the nines for church. That is his traditional Southern baptist raising. I am a little more free... There are tons of people who wear jeans to our church. I have tried to pull it off many times but my husband makes me feel bad. But this Sunday I did it! I made it to church in my jeans. I did wear cute little jacket and wore my dressy jeans and heels. When I got dressed my husband says to me "If you think that's your personal best, that is between you and the Lord" Ha! Very subtle in his opinions. We had a special treat at church, a guest speaker who did this ministry called "Word of God". He did the creation in 7 days and showed a video presentation while commentating using "God's words". It was amazing! After church we went to this brunch place I read about called Daily Review Cafe. The weather was again warm and sunny so we sat out in a garden courtyard at tables with umbrellas. There was a duo singing music. The food was great!
And then we went the Fryars for an awesome Super Bowl get together. The boys and Lily played washers. Lily is the adorable daughter of Mike and McCalle. She is seriously the happiest child I have been around. When she smiles, she just lights up the room. And she is constantly smiling. And she sleeps like a champ.. even when we are so loud! The food was great. Justin grilled some Alabama sausage. McCalle had made so many yummy dips and the cutest mini tacos. I made a football cheese ball and strawberry/chocolate pudding dessert. Leah and Curtis grilled kabobs.. We had so much food and it was all great. I enjoyed the game but I hanging out with friends was more fun. We have found a great group of friends that are so much fun and such a blessing to us here in Texas.

My football cheese ball for the game..

Chicken and beef kabobs.. good stuff
